James W. Jenkins: The Melton family lived at this site for a number of years. The two younger boys (Bobby and Jerry) have been lifelong friends. My uncle, George Jenkins, lived here at one time. The house was a white wooden structure with a front porch that stood several steps tall. The house may have been divided into apartments at one time. I recall playing in a pear tree in the front yard. I fell from the tree, and when I did I reached for a limb but couldn't catch mysef and I sliced the side of my right hand open. The scar is still visible today. |
