Dr. William Perry: This alley was filled in while I was away at college.
Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell: Mr. Henry Davis owned this alley. The hardware used the space until Mr. Davis built a building there. A loan company was located here in the 50’s. Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Welborn Pusser re-located to this building after the building on the south side burned during World War II. Some time after Hugh Pusser, Welborn's son, returned from service in 1946 and worked for a short time out-of-town, he took over the Pusser business at this location. I worked here for him during holidays when I was in college. As I recall, most of the merchandise was women's clothing. Later, Hugh moved the business down the street to 136 Main Street, the same building his father's business had occupied. While he was at this location, Hadley Caulder was re-building the burned-out Pusser's Store on the south side. A number of businesses have operated out of this location; the current one is Kiddie Korner, a children's re-sale store. |
