Dr. William Perry: A Mr. Porter ran a livery stable at the back of this site. Mr. Ed Stephenson came to Chesterfield from the Monroe area, and he operated a livery stable and farmed for a number of years. The building burned in the late 50’s and was not replaced. The building seen here was a latecomer to the business district. Ney Steele had his law office on the left side, and the Selective Service Office utilized the right side of the building.

James W. Jenkins: My uncle, Lee Jenkins, was the Chairman of the Selective Service Board for a number of years. He was a disabled veteran who survived two airplane crashes. He lived in Pageland, SC. Mrs. Evelyn (Peg) Douglas Griggs served as the Administrative Officer for the Selective Service Office for a number of years.

Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Rob King ran a hot dog stand here when I was a child. Ney Steele built this building and moved his law practice into the left side. In recent times, Tommy Gaskins and Robert Sellers occupied the left side with their business, Chesterfield Financial. Fourth Circuit Solicitor Jay Hodge used the left side for his office until he moved down the street to 137 Main Street. The first occupant I remember on the right side was the Selective Service office. Later, Joe Gentry ran a Prudential Insurance Agency here; he was followed by Allied Payday Loans owned by Robert Sellers. The current occupant is Joel F. Stroud, Attorney.
