Dr. William Perry:
Abner Davis had a taxi service here, and later Perry Hurst operated one from this location. I think one of the Smith boys (Don, Everett, or Levy) had a taxi service here at one time.
James W. Jenkins: Mr. Bart Allen operated a shoe shop at this location. He moved the shop from time to time to other locations. The shop was made from an old trolley car (I think it was called a jenny). Today this is a vacant lot. Stephen L. Sellers: Copied: Family History Alma Sellers married Bart Allen in 1926. He was a draftsman and sign painter. He was the keeper of the Ruby Fire Tower in the 40’s. Due to bad health, he gave that up to open a shoe repair shop. Bill Ballard of WBTV spotted his shop as he passed through Chesterfield and did a story for “Carolina Camera” about him and his shop. Alma was employed at Belk’s until she retired. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1976. He died in 1984 and is buried at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. |
